New Delhi : With the growing level of violence in Afghanistan peace and stability is at stake. The war-torn country is trying to establish stability by holding bilateral consultations with the regional countries for support. In a recently held conference in Capital city, Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister, Hekmat Khalil Karzai hopes that Pakistan take corrective actions to curb terrorism in their country.

Extensive level of violence in Afghanistan has dismantled peace and security in the region. With the drawdown of Western forces situation has worsened in recent years. To work out the modalities and to operationalize the Strategic Partnership between India and Afghanistan a conference titled ‘Indo-Afghan relations: The way forward was held at Delhi’s Observer Research Foundation which was chaired by Karzai. During the conference, Karzai discussed the significance of regional consensus for maintaining stability in Afghanistan.

The conference highlighted areas in economic, political and military challenges in Afghanistan. Afghanistan has been facing serious militant attacks which have worsened since 2001. The war-ravaged nation hopes that Pakistan’s military operation will not only cease militancy in Afghanistan but also from Pakistan. Karzai felt that once mutual trust and interaction develops between Afghanistan and Pakistan, it will benefit the regional countries also.

He said, “I think the most important desire of the Afghans is that the actions that our Pakistani collueges need to take regarding terrorism inside Pakistan is the same expectation that we Afghans have that they need to take similar actions against different militant groups particularly the Taliban, the Haqqani networks, we would like to make sure that they take counter terrorism measures and if they are not able to do so then at least label them they are terrorist so they are able to operate and conduct serious activities and terrorists activities in Afghanistan.”

Afghanistan said India stands in the first circle of their foreign policy. With the signing of Indo-Afghan partnership in 2011 has strengthen relations between the two nations. India has been assisting the war-torn country in rebuilding process by humanitarian assistance programmes.

Karzai further said, “I had several expectations and I think most of them have been met. I was able to have several very senior level meetings requesting assistance, requesting support and I have been assured that there would be extensive delivery and support for many of the things that we have requested.” Afghanistan looks to build concrete regional relation which will have substantial impact across the globe for peace, stability and growth.
