Pakistan hockey team out of Rio race after loss to Ireland

Antwerp (Belgium) : Pakistan men’s hockey team suffered a huge setback after they failed to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics following their 1-0 defeat to Ireland in the Hockey World League (HWL) Semifinals. The Green Shirts’ loss in the fifth to eight classification match means now they cannot finish in the top six of the tournament and have thus missed out on an Olympic berth. The result comes as a new low for Pakistan, who had failed to qualify for the 2014 World Cup for the first time in their history.
