Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) : Over eight people died and more than 100 were admitted to hospital after consuming spurious liquor in Lucknow.

The patients had consumed domestic liquor at night and in the morning were rushed to the hospital after they complained of uneasiness.

A doctor at a local hospital, R.K. Srivastava, said the patients started coming after eight in the morning.

“Around eight to ten people have died after drinking spurious liquor,” said Srivastava.

The doctor further said the patients complained they were not able to see properly and had breathing problems as well.

All the serious cases were sent to trauma centre at the Lucknow Medical College for treatment.

A patient who consumed spurious liquor, Ram Nath, said he was fine at night though.

“I was fine in the night but in the morning I started feeling dizzy, was vomiting and felt constipated. I haven’t eaten anything,” said Nath.

Doctors say domestic liquor is very dangerous for life and should not be consumed.

Reportedly the state government has suspended an excise inspector and four other personnel for dereliction of duty and the police will investigate this matter.
