Nine persons injured in post-poll clashes in WB

Balurghat (WB): Altogether nine persons were injured in post-poll clashes in separate incidents in West Bengal’s Birbhum and South Dinajpur districts, police officials said.

The voting in the second phase of Assembly election took place yesterday in the two districts.

Seven persons were injured in a clash between Trinamool Congress and CPI(M) supporters at Ghorapara village in Birbhum district last night after polling ended, a police officer said.The injured were admitted to Suri hospital.

The clash occured after a CPI(M) worker was injured in a bomb attack by the “rival party”, police said.

Though the situation was brought under control immediately, a fresh clash took place early this morning in which bombs were hurled indiscriminately.

Superintendent of Police S Raman Mishra has recommended suspension of Panrui OC Debabrata Sinha for alleged negligence of duty.

The recommendation would have to be ratified by the EC. In Balurghat in South Dinajpur district, two Trinamool Congress workers were injured in an attack by RSP suppporters at Balurghat after polls ended last night, a police officer said.

The RSP workers went to the house of TMC supporters, Subrata Ray and Khokon Sarkar, and beat them up for allegedly having voted for TMC, the officer said.

The injured were sent to Balurghat district hospital. One RSP supporter, Gokul Biswas has been arrested, the officer said.
