Bengaluru : Karnataka Home Minister K J George gave a new definition to gang rape saying that only if four to five men or more rape a girl, it could fall under the `definition” of gang rape.

Reacting to the gang rape of a BPO employee here this week by two men in a moving van, the minister said it was not gang rape but an `ordinary rape.”

Faced with public criticism, George later tried to wriggle out stating that he did not give a definition, but it was a `perception in the minds of the public.”

Opposition BJP and the JD(S), an ally of the Congress, asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to sack the minister who, instead of curbing crimes, is out trying to give offences a new definition.

Women activists too on Friday slammed the minister. General Secretary of All India Democratic Women”s Association Jagmati Sangwan said that this was condemnable and he should curb such crimes instead of making irresponsible statements.

General Secretary of National Federation of Indian Women, Annie Raja said this is an attempt to take away the focus from his failure in administration.
