The fire broke out at the slum on Akurli Road in Damunagar area of Kandivili. The place is said to house a godown of various items. Some people are feared to have been injured in the mishap, an official at fire control room said without divulging details.

“Our primary job is to douse the fire with minimal impact and it will take sometime to ascertain the details and the cause of the blaze,” he said.

However, local residents claimed that the inferno occurred due to a series of cylinder explosions.

Meanwhile, police cordoned off the area and were trying to verify the claims of the locals.
