Mumbai: The Maharashtra government has stated that the sale of gutka, which has been banned in the state, will be declared a non-bailable offence. According to reports, the remark was made by Maharashtra Food and Drug Minister Girish Bapat after the issue of the continuing sale of gutka was raised by Congress leader Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan during the Question Hour of the state assembly.

Bapat further stated that gutka worth Rs 32 crore has been seized, with the state police receiving directives to book offenders under IPC Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison). Maharashtra banned the sale of gutka in July 2012.
