The actor-turned-politician Urmila Matondkar on Monday has urged people to come out and vote in large numbers. Congress has fielded Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar from Mumbai North against BJP’s sitting MP Gopal Shetty. After casting her vote at a polling booth in Bandra, Urmila told NDTV, “I want to say please come out in big numbers and please vote. Enjoy holiday later. The first priority should be to vote. They (voters) should choose the one who would take them to their right future and make the politician who lies sit at home.”
Urmila Matondkar joined Congress in March, after which she told reporters, “I am here because I believe in the ideology of Congress and what the party stands for. I have not joined the party for the sake of elections.” Urmila Matondkar also said that India is riddled with the problems of unemployment and she wishes to work on that.
Urmila Matondkar started her career in Bollywood as a child artiste. She came to prominence with her role in Shekhar Kapoor’s 1983 movie ‘Masoom’. Urmila won the Filmfare best actress award in 1995 for Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Rangeela’.
