Chennai : Young Tamil film music director Anirudh, who became a national rage with his ‘Why this kolaveri di?’ song two years ago, has landed in trouble along with an upcoming actor Simbu, alias STR, for recording a yet-to-be-released album that makes a vulgar reference to a body part of women. Anirudh and Simbu have been booked by the Coimbatore police under the provisions of the Indecent Representation of Women Act and Information Technology Act (for publishing obscene material in electronic form) on a complaint from the All India Women’s Democratic Association (AIDWA). The song rendered by Simbu and composed by Anirudh deals with a frustrated youth in love and is named as the “beep song” where the offending word is replaced with a beep sound. Though the singer utters only the first and last letter of the demeaning reference to a woman’s private part, and the rest of the word is blacked out by the beep sound, any Tamil knowing listener can easily make out the obscene word.

Simbu, incidentally, is not new to controversies. He has been caught on the wrong foot in the past when his intimate photos with a south Indian actress were leaked and an audio clip, purportedly in conversation with Kollywood superstar Rajinikanth’swife Latha afteran alleged break-up with the latter’s daughter, made its way online. Soon after the police registered a case against the actor and Anirudh for the ”beep song” their advocate C Rajeshekaran issued a statement saying the song which is going viral on YouTube and WhatsApp is not the official version and the lyrics were misunderstood. Claiming that the video was leaked with mala fide intentions to tarnish their image, the advocate said the song was recorded for private use and nobody has the right infringe into their privacy. Subsequently, Simbu issued a statement saying he and Anirudh were doing jamming sessions for the last few years during free time and “some idiot” stole it and leaked it. “I owe no explanation nor am I answerable to anyone regarding this! This song is neither official and it is not meant to be used in any film album. No one can question me on what I do in life,” he said.
