Puducherry: Puducherry Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi joined civic workers on the World Environment Day today to lift garbage as part of efforts to make the Union Territory clean and environmentally good to attract tourists.

Wearing mask, hand gloves and yellow coloured cap, she removed garbages along with the municipal workers at Lal Bahadhur Sastri street and Gingee Salai.

“I will take up the operation garbage work every Sunday along with the civic workers as my intention is to ensure that

Puducherry becomes a clean city. Police and civic workers are most important sections and the welfare of the personnel attached to these two wings should be taken care of”, she said.

Bedi said she was doing it not to gain any publicity.

“I really want to ensure that Puducherry emerged a clean city”, she said.

Secretary to Lt Governor Theva Needhi Dhas, officials of Raj Nivas and high ranking police officers also joined with her in the task.

As promised at one of her public functions earlier, she dispensed with using of siren in the pilot or escort vehicles
