Bengaluru :  In a major embarrassment, Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala on Tuesday walked out of an official function while the national anthem was being played.

As top judges and dignitaries watched in dismay, the Governor got down the stage while the national anthem was being played.

When he approached the door, he was told by his aides that the national anthem was being played. He then quickly got back to the stage and stood in attention for the remaining part of the anthem.

Though there was no official reaction from the Raj Bhavan, sources close to the Governor said that Vajubhai either did not hear the anthem or was too lost in thought. Either way, the damage was done.

The function was organised at the Raj Bhavan in connection with the swearing in of Justice Raghvendra Singh Chauhan who was transferred from the Rajasthan High Court to the Karnataka High Court.

Political parties refused to comment on the incident.
