Coimbatore: The judicial custody of five Maoists, lodged in the Central jail here, was today extended till July 22 by a court. District Sessions Judge Pongiyappan extended the remand when the Maoists, arrested two months ago from Karumathampatti on the city outskrits, were produced before him on expiry of the earlier remand.

The Maoists are Roopesh, Kannan, Shyna, Veeramani and Anoop. Emerging from the court, the Maoists told reporters that they had not been given bail despite being in jail for two months. “We are not terrorists. Maoists are also patriots,” one of them said.
