‘Jharkhand lags behind in construction of toilets’

Ranchi: The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in a report said that Jharkhand lags behind in construction of toilets in schools and other places. The CAG report said: “Jharkhand achieved construction of school toilets to 9,809 which is 66 percent of the set target of 14,859 during 2009 and 2014 financial year.”

“The achievement of construction of Anganwadi toilets were only 42 percent during same against target of 13,826. The construction of toilets for community sanitary complex witnessed poor performance in which achieved only was nine percent of the target against 2,464,” the report said.

“The year-wise achievement and target fixed for school toilets, Anganwadi centres, community sanitary complex and Solid Liquid Waste Management during 2009 to 2014 ranged between zero and 60 percent,” said the CAG report released this week.

The performance and audit report of the schemes disclosed there were significant delays in setting up implementing agencies. The Programme Management Unit (PMU) could utilise only Rs.262.65 crore against the total available funds of Rs.449.25 crore during 2009 to 20014, said the report.
