Japan to heighten cyber security

Tokyo: Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Friday said Japan will take all possible measures to heighten computer security ahead of next year’s G-7 summit and the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. Abe made the remarks in a video message played at the opening of an international conference in Okinawa to discuss countermeasures against cyber-attacks, public broadcaster NHK reported. More than 350 experts from 35 countries and territories are attending the two-day meeting that opened on Saturday. Abe said cyber security is an essential basis for promoting the use of information technology and implementing growth strategies. He added that Japan needs to ensure cyber security to make the events a success and that the government is doing all it can to that end. Participants at the Okinawa conference are expected to report on anti-cyber attack measures by government agencies and industries. Japan is set to host the Ise-Shima summit of G-7 major nations next year, and the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Tokyo.
