Jaitley surprise omission in I-Day speech committee

New Delhi :  In a surprise omission, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has kept Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley out of a 4-member team headed by Law and Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, which has been constituted to prepare the draft of his first Independence Day address.

Jaitley has been always providing talking points to Modi and therefore his exclusion is surprising. More so, since the major thrust of Modi’s speech is going to be on economic reforms that concern Jaitley.

The team, which held its first meeting here on Thursday to discuss issues that should be highlighted by the PM in his Independence Day address, included young power minister Piyush Goyal, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani and Chemicals and Fertiliser Minister Ananth Kumar.

The PMO sources said the team has to coordinate with various ministries which have been already instructed to draw up a list of the government’s achievements and major policies and projects they plan to take up in the coming days for inclusion in Modi’s speech.
