After new Rs 200 note, now get ready for new Rs 100 note. According to reports, RBI is expected to start printing of newly designed Rs 100 note around April next year.
Even a new 1-rupee note have surfaced on social media. The images that surfaced of 1 rupee note, shows that the note is grey in colour, but the size looks like same as the old 1 rupee note. Yet there is no official statement from RBI about the 1 rupee note.
On the other hand the printing of the new Rs 100 note will begin after presses finish printing of the new Rs 200 note by the end of the financial year in March. The existing Rs 100 note will continue to be in system and will be gradually withdrawn without any disruption, a central bank official told Hindustan Times.
The size and dimensions of the new Rs 100 note will not be changed, ensuring teller machines (ATMs) can be compatible from the beginning. Some banks have even asked the ATM companies to begin testing the Rs 200 note for recalibration of the machines, though they have not got supplies of the new currency.
Since the announcement of demonetisation the government has introduced new Rs 2000, Rs 500, Rs 200 and Rs 50 notes. The stated objectives of the demonetisation exercise were curbing black money, corruption and terror funding. Later on, digitisation was added as another aim.
