‘Indrani landed in JJ due to fatique’

Jail authorities rule out drug overdose or suicide bid even as a two-member CBI team grill her for nearly six hours in the Sheena murder case

Mumbai : In the ever changing plot of Indrani Mukherjea’s hospitalisation, jail authorities on Saturday ruled out drug overdose or suicide bid even as a two-member CBI team grilled her for nearly six hours in her daughter Sheena Bora murder case. The court has permitted CBI to interrogate her till October 19.

“There was no overdose of any drug nor was it a case of poisoning. She had briefly stopped taking medicines and this could have caused her condition to worsen. Fatigue and weakness had also added to her condition, “said Inspector General of Prisons Bipin Kumar Singh.

The former media honcho was rushed to JJ Hospital on October 2 after she complained of chest pain and fell unconscious in the Byculla jail where she is currently in judicial custody. While initially the doctors had confirmed to the media that it is a case of overdosing on drugs, the same was later denied by them. The incident had forced the Jail authorities to initiate a departmental inquiry into the same.

“We questioned activities of 32 personnel including the medical team and on duty police officers who are posted in the jail. We have also recorded statement of Indrani Mukherjea and spoken to the doctors treating her and based on all findings we have ruled out any foul play, conspiracy or sabotage,” said ADG, Bhushan Kumar Upadhaye, ADG, Prisons.

IG Bipin Kumar Singh revealed that the fainting incident on Oct 2 wasn’t a first for Indrani. She had previously on September 8 fainted in the prison and was advised medicines by the doctors in jail. “On September 9, the consulting physician visited her for a medical checkup. On September 10, she complained of body ache, sleeplessness and restlessness and fainted. On September 11, Indrani complained of chest pain to the visiting
