The Pakistan Prime Minister today has said that he was not worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize and the award should be given to that person who will solve Kashmir dispute. This comes a day after, a motion was submitted in Pakistan’s National Assembly calling for Prime Minister Imran Khan to be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his role in “de-escalating” tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad.
In a tweet, Imran Khan said, “I am not worthy of the Nobel Peace Prize. The person worthy of this would be the one who solves the Kashmir dispute according to the wishes of the Kashmiri people and paves the way for peace & human development in the subcontinent.”
The motion, seeking Imran Khan should be awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, was submitted by Pakistan Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary on Saturday, has lauded Prime Minister Khan’s efforts for reducing the tension between two “nuclear-armed countries” which were on the brink of a war after the terror attack in Pulwama in Indian Jammu and Kashmir, and the subsequent strike by Indian Air Force (IAF) on JeM terror camp at Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The motion comes a day after Pakistan handed over IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman back to India. Even an online petition has also been filed, urging the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of Khan for the Nobel Peace Prize for 2020 in recognition of his peace efforts.
