Dehradun: Heavy rains are likely to hit Uttarakhand especially the hill districts of Champavat, Almora, Nainital, Tehri and Pauri, MeT department cautioned today. Heavy showers may also lash Dehradun and adjoining areas, the MeT Director Vikram Singh told.

Thunder squall and hail are also likely at a few places while places located above 3500 metres may receive light snowfall, he said.

He advised people particularly Chardham yatris to maintain caution and not venture out during thunderstorm activity which, he said, does not usually last long.

They should take shelter along the pilgrimage route at the time of thunderstorm activity, he said.

A series of cloudbursts in Tehri and Uttarkashi districts on Saturday have claimed six lives, besides damaging a large number of houses and burying alive approximately 100 cattle.
