Sukhjinder Singh was one of the 40 CRPF solider who died in the suicide attack in Pulwama. Sukhjinder was 32 and hailed from a small village from Punjab. While talking to Hindustan Times, his elder brother Gurjant Singh, revealed that Sukhjinder wanted to live in Canada after retirement. Sukhjinder’s family members also revealed that, he talked to them over phone at around 10 AM. He later promised to call back in the evening, but unfortunately the call never came back.

“He enquired about the health of all the members in the family. Then he said he would talk in the evening but at around 6pm, we got a call from Sukhjinder’s unit informing us about his death,” his elder brother said.

Gurjant added, “Around nine months ago, my brother was promoted from the rank of constable to head-constable. His retirement was due in 2022. He wanted to settle in Canada with his family after his retirement.

Sukhjinder was married and had an eight-month-old son. He used to live with his parents and elder brother. Last time Sukhjinder came home was in December to celebrate his son’s first Lohri. He stayed in the village till January 28.

A full Court of Inquiry (CoI) over the attack has been ordered by the force headquarters in Delhi, a senior official said Friday. A Jaish suicide bomber Thursday rammed a vehicle carrying about 100-kgs of explosives into a bus carrying CRPF personnel in Pulwama district killing 40.
