Bhubaneswar; A day after four members of a family were found dead with their throats slit at a village in Puri district, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today ordered the Crime Branch of Police to probe the incident.

“The Chief Minister has ordered a Crime Branch (CB) inquiry into the incident,” a CMO official said. Soon after the CM’s direction, the Crime Branch of the state police formed a team for conducting the inquiry into the incident that took place at Nagara village, a senior crime branch official said. The move came after the bodies of Dinabandhu Mallick (65), a retired district inspector (DI) of schools, his wife Nirmala and daughters Saswati (13) and Pranati (7) were found in a pool of blood inside their residence last evening.

The bodies were found by relatives and villagers who became suspicious after they found the main door of their house bolted from the outside, said Additional Superintendent of Police (Puri), Jagannath Pradhan. The bodies were found on the ground floor of the two- storey building, said Pradhan. Agitated over the incident, the villagers had detained the bodies, but allowed them to be taken for post-mortem after Crime Branch probe was ordered. “A Crime Branch team is expected to reach the village shortly. Investigation will be conducted by examining all possible angles,” said a CB official.
