BJP releases 2nd list of Lok Sabha candidates

To announce third list of candidates after meeting on Mar 13 Singer Babul Supriyo to contest Lok Sabha poll from Asansol.

The Bharatiya Janata Party today released its second list of Lok Sabha candidates, announcing 52 names, including former Karnataka chief minister B.S. Yeddyurappa from the Shimoga constituency.

The party released the list after a meeting of its Central Election Committee today. The meeting was attended by BJP President Rajnath Singh, L.K. Advani, Sushma Swaraj, Arun Jaitley, apart from the party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Today’s list includes 20 constituencies from Karnataka, 17 from West Bengal, five each from Assam and Odisha, three from Kerala and two from Tripura.

The party had earlier said it would release a list of 100 candidates today. BJP said another meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee has been scheduled for Thursday.

In Karnataka, where the party has seen the return of its estranged former chief minister Y.S. Yeddyurappa, the BJP has fielded 20 candidates as of now, which include 12 sitting Members of Parliament and two former chief ministers– Yedyurappa himself and D.V. Sadananda Gowda, who will contest from Bangalore North.

The party’s national general secretary Ananth Kumar will contest to defend his Bangalore South seat.

The party had released its first list on Feb 27, announcing 54 names from various constituencies in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir.

The party today also released the list of 57 candidates for Odisha’s Assembly polls that will be held along with the General Election.
