New Delhi: Weeks after the Supreme Court scrapped the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act, BJP member Udit Raj today targeted the judiciary in the Lok Sabha, saying an “un-elected” body is annulling laws passed by Parliament. Udit Raj raised the issue while contending that a Gujarat High Court judge had allegedly equated reservation with corruption and demanded an impeachment motion against him.

“A judge of the Gujarat High Court should not have said that reservation and corruption are creating hindrance for the country. Now judges are saying like this. They are abusing the Constitution. I expect from all the political parties that he should be impeached. Reservation is being compared with corruption… An impeachment should be brought against such judges,” he said during Zero Hour.

Using this issue, the MP attacked the judiciary, saying, “there is a third house in this country which is un-elected, which is annulling our laws made by the House.” He was apparently referring to the scrapping of the National Judicial Appointments Commission (NJAC) Act, 2014 by the SC on October 16.

Udit Raj also made a strong plea for bringing a comprehensive law to deal with reservation as the quota effected through executive orders have brought in several anomalies.

“We are not demanding a separate reservation power or rights but reservation so far regulated by executive orders has so many anomalies, so a comprehensive law should be framed,” he said recalling that a bill regarding this was brought in Rajya Sabha in 2004 and was passed also in 2009.

But due to some issues in that it was opposed and finally withdrawn with the condition that the bill will be re-introduced however that could not be reintroduced, he said.
