New Delhi: Launching a frontal attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress leader Rashid Alvi on Tuesday said that the party has agreed for fresh assembly polls in Delhi as they are aware that they cannot horse trade anymore.
“There should be polls in Delhi but I am surprised with the BJPs behaviour. Now they want polls because they know that they cannot horse trade,” said Alvi.
The BJP had refused to form a minority government in Delhi.
Lieutenant Governor (LG) Najeeb Jung has sent a status report today to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) over government formation in the capital.
Yesterday, Jung held consultations with the leaders of the BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Raj Niwas to explore the possibility of government formation in Delhi.
In the meeting, all the parties expressed their inability to form the government in Delhi.
The LG met all the three party leaders separately.
Delhi has been under President’s rule since February after the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government stepped down after 49 days in power.
The BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal coalition has 29 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly. The alliance had won 32 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year, but three BJP MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha in the general elections. The AAP had won 28 seats in the polls.
