Batch of 1,727 pilgrims leaves for Amarnath yatra

Jammu: A fresh batch comprising 1,727 pilgrims today left from the base camp here to the cave shrine of Amarnath in South Kashmir Himalayas amid tight security. The batch, with 1,238 men, 407 women, 32 children and 50 sadhus, left in a cavalcade of 44 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp here at 4:45 AM today, a police official said. The convoy for the yatra has already crossed Chenani on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway. With today’s batch, as many as 31,240 pilgrims have so far left from Jammu base camp for Amarnath shrine.
