Jammu: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sukhnandan Choudhary on Friday said that Jammu and parts of the Kashmir Valley are still in the grip of a heavy downpour, which has prompted the state administration to place the army and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on high alert.

“Heavy rains are pouring in some parts of Kashmir valley as well as Jammu, Wular Lake is over the danger mark and people in the area have been alerted,” said Sukhnandan Choudhary

“The army, NDRF and the administration are on full alert,” he added. Earlier, anguished residents in the flood affected areas of Jammu and Kashmir expressed fears about their homes falling apart because of the ongoing downpour.

Though the state Met department on Friday predicted a substantial decrease in the rainfall currently lashing Jammu and Kashmir, the residents complained about their lives being disrupted by swelling river waters and the heavy downpour, and demanded immediate and subst antial relief.

“Rainfall, particularly in J-K, will decrease substantially. We don’t expect any heavy rainfall for the next four-five days. Western disturbance that caused heavy rainfall is weakening, there will only be light rainfall here and there (J-K),” said BP Yadav, Director, Met Department.
