New Delhi : Arguing that statements from Union minister and former army chief V K Singh drawing a dog analogy with the dalits are not “off-the cuff” remarks but part of a calculated game plan, the Congress has charged that through all these incidents the ”anti-Dalit, anti-poor” mindset of the ruling BJP-RSS combine stands exposed. ”There is a long list of incidents and an equally long list of statements, and it has not happened once but on so many occasions, that these cannot be dismissed as coincidences,” said Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala. “So many ministers cannot be speaking out of turn, and without the approval of the leadership and the Prime Minister. Besides, if the PM really does not approve of these statements, why does he not act against them,” he added even as he quipped that this is a controversial statement a day government.

“Unless they are all part of a game plan, they cannot be speaking in the same tone and tenor – whether it is V K Singh or Giriraj Singh or the Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and unlike the other ministers (who are senior to the PM in the BJP hierarchy), they are all junior to him and have been hand-picked by Modi,” the Congress spokesperson observed, adding that anti-Dalit mindset comes out with Khattar stating that it is not a caste related incident but a family feud even before the commencement of the  CBI enquiry into the Sunped incident in which two Dalit infants were burnt alive and their parents sustained serious injuries.

“From the RSS chief”s remarks about reviewing the SC/ST reservations and the utterances of these leaders, it is become evident that the BJP that had backed leaders like Ram Vilas Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi to secure the votes of the Dalits and mahadalits in Bihar state assembly elections has given up on that hope, and that is why these leaders have reacted strongly against the Sunped incident, and the ”dog analogy” by V K Singh comes close to this logic of not caring for these sections,” he added. The Congress spokesperson observed that all these anti-Dalit incidents are highly condemnable and deserve the strongest criticism. ”But the crucial issue from the point of communal harmony and national unity is the subsequent attempt by the senior leaders and spokespersons of the ruling establishment to trivialise these life and death matters and refer to these as small incidents,” he added.
