Indian Wells  – World number one Serena Williams progressed through to her first final of the BNP Paribas Open since 2001 after overcoming third-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska in the women’s singles event here.

The American veteran rattled off 11 of the final 12 points to complete a 6-4, 7-6 (7-1) victory over her Poland opponent in the thrilling semi-final contest that lasted for one hour and 35 minutes.

Following the win, Williams said that it seemed to be unbelievable to return to the finals of the event after a span of 15 years.

Williams has now set up a summit showdown against 13th seed Victoria Azarenka, who outclassed Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic 7 – 6 (1) , 1 – 6 ,6 – 2 for the final-berth.

If Williams manages to clinch this year’s Indian Wells title then she will become the first player to earn the hat-trick in the tournament.
