7th phase of LS polls: An independent and the Badals top the rich candidate list

Election fever has been catching up with every phase ending in an eventful way. Those who were away from politics are also been caught in this fever. Everybody is interested to know gossips about their constituency candidates. People are interested in hearing their election manifesto as nobody believes the leader has done any work but still has the guts to stand and present the incomplete work in a fancy and flashy way. From colourful banners and buntings to fancy cavalcade marching down a never-ending bed of flowers, it is a sight to behold. However, all that fancy comes at a price and the richer the contesting candidate is, the grander his/her rally appears.

Ramesh Kumar Sharma, an independent contesting the elections from Pataliputra is the richest with assets to the tune of Rs 11,07,58,33,190 says a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms. His movable assets are valued at Rs 7,08,33,190, while the immovable assets are worth Rs 11,00,50,00,000.

According to an Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) data, There are 278(31%) candidates who have assets worth Rs. 1 crore and more.

Sukhbir Singh Badal contesting from Firozpur on a SAD ticket is second on this list with assets worth Rs 2,17,99,19,870 (217 crore). His moveable and immoveable assets are worth Rs 1,00,30,02,445 and Rs 1,17,69,17,425 respectively.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the SAD contesting from Bathinda is the third richest candidate contesting the last phase of the elections. She is worth Rs 2,17,99,19,870 (217 Crore). Her moveable and immoveable assets are worth Rs 1,00,30,02,445 and Rs 1,17,69,17,425 respectively.

Among the major parties 40(89%) out of 45 candidates from INC, 36(84%) out of 43 candidates from BJP, 11(28%) out of 39 candidates from BSP, 9(64%) out of 14 candidates from AAP and 59(19%) out of 313 indpendent candidates have declared assets worth more than Rs. 1 crore. The average asset per candidate contesting in the Lok Sabha Phase 7 election is Rs. 4.61 crores.

There are three candidates with zero assets. They are Pappu Kumar, Shiv Charan and Sunil Kumar Pandey. Among the candidates with the lowest assets are Urmila, Jani Karan and Chain Singh Bainka. They have declared assets worth Rs 295, Rs 1,000 and Rs 3,000 respectively.
