Salem (TN): A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by a grocery shop owner at Thatampatty village in the district, police said.

They said the man has been arrested on a complaint from the girl’s parents.

The girl had been sent to the nearby shop to get some items when the 55-year-old owner took her to his home behind it and sexually assaulted her.

She returned in tears to her home and her parents then took her to the Mohan Kumaramangalam medical college hospital, where a medical examination confirmed she had been sexually assaulted, police said.

The man was arrested and produced before a judicial magistrate, who remanded him to 15 days custody.
