New York: A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck western Ecuador early on Wednesday, likely assumed to be a huge aftershock from last month’s massive quake. According to the U.S. Geographical Survey the quake’s epicentre was 36 miles south of the city of Esmeraldas, at a depth of 10 km, reports the Independent.

Meanwhile, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in a statement said, that a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami was not expected. In April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the country in one of Ecuador’s worst disasters for nearly seven decades killing over 650 people and injuring around 16,600.
