Mumbai :  At least three dance bars have been granted licences within the time frame stipulated by the Supreme Court.

Two of these bars are located in Andheri — the Aero Punjab bar and Sai Prasad; the third is the Indiana bar at Tardeo. The Apex Court had ordered that eight dance bars be given the licenses, if they are in compliance with the conditions laid down by the state government under the new legislation.

Of the six shortlisted bars, owners of two were not in town and could not submit the mandatory demand draft of Rs 2 lakh each.

They are expected to get the licences on Friday after they complete the formalities, said the office bearers of AHAR, the organization of restaurant and bar owners.

The organization office bearers told the FPJ they are not happy with the new legislation in this regard and would oppose it in the court. It was not clear whether the state government is filing a review petition or not.
