Mumbai : A 22-year-old girl from an affluent family died of head injuries in a car accident after her elder sister, with whom she was seated in the family’s Honda Accent, lost control over the vehicle and rammed it into an electric pole in Goregaon east on Sunday morning.
At 7.30 A.M., the deceased, Gunjan Khurana (22), the accused Parul Khurana (24) and their younger brother left their residence in their Honda Accent car to go to Bandra for a family function.
The accident took place in front of Hub Mall on the southbound tract of Western Express highway. Parul was allegedly speeding and lost control over the car, which clambered onto the footpath and rammed into an electric pole.
The impact was such that the electric pole was almost uprooted. Gunjan, who was sitting on Parul’s left-hand side, suffered grievous head injuries and was declared dead on arrival by the Bhagwati hospital. Parul suffered minor injuries and was discharged by the hospital in the evening.
A case under IPC Section 304 A for causing death due to negligence has been registered against Parul; however, she has not been arrested as the family is grief-stricken and the police are waiting for the family members to come to terms with their child’s sudden demise.
