2 killed, 100 houses inundated in heavy rainfall

Jamshedpur: Two persons of a family, including a minor, were today killed in wall collapse while about hundred houses in catchment areas here were inundated owing to incessant rainfall for the last two days. A 12-year-old boy and his 45-year-old aunt were killed this morning when a wall collapsed on them at Sitaramdera locality, police said here.

Officials said Kharkhai river which flows near the steel town was above the red mark though Swarnarekha river was below the danger mark.

Several areas like Bagbera, Shastrinagar, Jugsalai, Mango were inundated due to heavy rains and the waters engulfed about 100 houses. The East Singhbhum district administration has sounded an alert and directed people living in low-lying areas to move to safer places in view of the increasing water level.
