2 APIs are among 7 booked for rape on police premises

Mumbai :  A rape case has been registered by the Mumbai Crime Branch against two of its officers, a constable and four other persons for allegedly raping a Mumbai-based small-time model and call girl.

According to sources, the policemen involved in the case had trapped the woman in Sakinaka where she had allegedly been soliciting customers, and taken her to the Sakinaka police station for questioning.

On April 21, she sent an SMS to Commissioner of Police Rakesh Maria saying that she is in distress. She was called to meet Maria the next day where she alleged that she had been raped by an officer attached with the Sakinaka police station after he and his colleagues took her there for questioning. She also said that some jewellery and money were taken from her by the alleged accused.

Besides the police officers and the constable, four other people, one of whom is a woman, have also been booked in the case. An inquiry was being carried out by the police until late on Thursday night, after which six arrests have been made. These include the two officers and the constable.

The policemen have been identified as Assistant Police Inspector (API) Khatape and API Suryavanshi and constable Kode. Out of these, API Khatape has been booked for rape.
