We are a tad too late to sample the winter specialities, but if it’s authentic North Indian and Delhi cuisine of the vegetarian variety you are seeking, well, you have come to the right place. Delhi Highway is no dhaba-style eatery – the 104-seater restaurant is marked by high ceilings, beautiful Mogul decor elements, and a general air of lavishness. This extends to the food as well—the thali at this ‘Royal Reservation’ restaurant is fit for a king, and one with an extra-large appetite, at that.
The fixed meal tees off with a lip-smacking Fruit Punch welcome drink; and you can keep topping up your glass. Next, the smiling servers come bearing portions of Dahi Bhalla Chaat, Mutter Kulche and Gol-Gappa Shots to your table. These are followed by the starters—an interesting mix of Chipotle Paneer Tikka, Veg Seekh Kabab, Tandoori Alu, Naram Dil Kabab, Hara Bhara Kabab and Makai Kabab.
As you might have guessed, by now our tummy is already dangerously full. But wait, your pates are whisked away to be replaced by heavy thaals laden with no less than six katoris bearing piping hot mains. There’s also Dum Biryani and a basket of extremely delicious Tandoori Roti and Kulcha to be tackled. Honest confession: we cannot clean up our plates totally like Granny always advised but we do manage to do justice to the nut-sprinkled jalebi and Keshari Kheer, followed by a kullad of the Delhi Special Lassi.
At Rs.650 (GST applicable) the repast is an absolute steal and the fastest moving item here, the charming manager Sridhar Pradhan tells us. All around us is proof of happy families tucking in with gusto. Do your senses a favour and do likewise.
