Rassam Express offer yummy snacks from the South of India and combo meals, writes GITA HARI.
Ever been to The Capital in BKC – the spanking, immaculate, stunning and spectacular 18-storey glass building with commercial, retail and restaurant spaces which boasts of world’s largest automated car parking system and the sky lobby, on the 3rd level of the Lobby is where we headed to for a luncheon at the pure vegetarian eatery Rassam Express. It’s more like a QSR with orders being served on slotted synthetic plates. The seating is limited due to a food court-like arrangement. Pricing is reasonable and ingredients are fresh and tasty. Being in a restricted space it does have its limitations yet ideal for quick tea-time breaks.
Going with our first orders first, Rawa Idli and Medu Vada we found the accompaniment of sambar and chutneys were authentic Tambrahm- something rare as most restaurants use cinnamon or garlic in them thereby messing up with the entire feel of the appetizing snack. Ghee Roast Dosa was a better option among Express Dosas as it was nice and crispy. A must-try is the house specialty of Express Special Dosa. It comes with a flavourful filling of corn, potato bhaji and processed cheese in a perfectly done dosa.
Go for Dal Wada, again a plate of two large crunchy lentil wadas or Mix Pakora of bell peppers, potato, baby corn and mirchi if it’s chai time and you cannot miss the signature Rassam in a tea cup full of flavours and colour albeit a tad too spicy. Make sure to mention your preferred degree of sharpness before you place the order. Though palatable, Pav Bhaji could not come up to street food standard in taste.
Meal combos come with a snack/paneer makhani, Rice of the Day (biryani), mini uttappa with chutney and sambhar or paratha with salad, papad and pickle besides a dessert. Strawberry Gateau was excellent as a sweet finale.
Wind up with Madras filter coffee, Kerala chass (typical curry leaves crushed seasoned buttermilk), Mango Lassi, Thandai, Cutting Chai or juices. Depending on Healthy Meal or palate teasers (Rassam Sp. Chinese Paneer) for Rs. 225 and Rs.195 respectively, you can enjoy a filling lunch here. A hot favourite with office goers from its building and vicinity, Rassam Express in sky lobby at The Capital BKC offers a beautiful, tranquil Reliance JIO garden view with yummy snacks from the South of India and combo meals.
