Dhansak is a Parsi dish, traditionally prepared on a Sunday in Parsi households but can be eaten anytime. It combines the elements of Persian and Gujarati cuisines and is made by cooking mutton (goat meat) or any non-vegetarian produce such as poultry and lamb with a mixture of three or more type of dals (lentils) and a special dhansak masala made of different spice. Dhansak as a dish packs a punch, blended with aromatic spices. This is the very thing which sets it apart. One of the trademarks of ever Parsi home in which two dhansaks would not be similar. This is a potato and egg based dish. A renowned breakfast dish among Parsis. Made with partially boiled potatoes with few spices for flavor or just cracked pepper for some zing, eaten with toast or soft bread (pao). It is filling and an energy source which will keep you satisfied till your lunch cravings take over.

Saas ni machi is another fish centric dish, it is a spiced fish cooked in a sweet and sour white sauce. Sauce is a diversion of saas. It a simple yet brilliant fish dish. Apart from the pomfret, the dish consist of two strong elements- fresh green chilli and whole cumin seeds. An egg, sugar and vinegar mixture at the end adds a special touch. A celebrated dish at Parsi weddings. It is also cooked at home with basmati rice or bread .One must try to realize the difference between saas ni machi and patra ni macchi. This is a Parsi style fried chicken, mildly spice yet high on taste. The term farcha applies to the Gujarati word which when translated is meant as paper.
