The year 2018 has been full of various good and bad events. Amidst all the happenings, many eminent personalities left us for the heavenly journey this year, making the world feel their absence. The death of these personalities took the entire world by surprise. Although their worldly journey might have come to an end, the legacy which these eminent persons left behind will remain alive forever.

As 2018 draws to a close, here is a quick look at all the eminent persons who passed away this year.

Sridevi: February 25

Sridevi, Bollywood’s leading lady of the 1980s and ‘​90s who redefined stardom for actresses in India, died in February. She was 54 years old. Sridevi was described as the first female superstar in India’s male-dominated film industry.

Nargis Rabadi aka Shammi Aunty: March 6

Nargis Rabadi, popularly known as ‘Shammi Aunty’ in the industry, passed away on March 6. She was a veteran actor who appeared in more than 200 films.

Narendra Jha: March 14

Actor Narendra Jha breathed his last on March 14, 2018, at the age of 55. He suffered a massive heart attack at his Wada farmhouse in Nashik. Narendra Jha was a popular face in TV serials who had also worked with Shyam Benegal in films like Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero and Samvidhaan.

Stephen Hawking: March 14

Stephen Hawking, the best-known theoretical physicist of his time, died at age 76 in March. Hawking wrote so lucidly of the mysteries of space, time and black holes that his book, A Brief History of Time, became an international bestseller, making him one of science’s biggest celebrities since Albert Einstein.

Avicii: April 20

Swedish DJ and record producer Avicii, one of the biggest stars of electronic dance music (EDM) in the world, died in April at the age of 28. The Grammy-nominated artist was an international pop star, performing his well-known electronic dance songs around the world for feverish fans, sometimes hundreds of thousands at music festivals, where he was the headline act.

Rita Bhaduri: July 17

Bollywood veteran and Kabhi Haan Kabhi Na actress Rita Bhaduri was suffering from a kidney ailment. She was one of the popular faces of Bollywood who had done several supporting roles in many Bollywood films like Julie, Raja, Beta, Love and others

M Karunanidhi: August 7

Renowned politician and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M Karunanidhi breathed his last on August 7, 2018, owing to multiple organ failure. Fondly known as Kalaignar, the writer and politician from Tamil Nadu, died at 94, leaving a void in Tamil Nadu’s political history.

Somnath Chatterjee: August 13

Lok Sabha Speaker from 2004 to 2009, Mr Chatterjee was a member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) for 40 years since 1968, represented the party 10 times in parliament, and was acknowledged as one of its most brilliant ever.

Ajit Wadekar: August 15

Former Indian cricket team captain Ajit Wadekar died at the age of 77 in Mumbai after a prolonged illness. The left-hander was well known for leading the side to Test victories over West Indies and England on foreign soil in the 1970s.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee: August 16

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who as India’s prime minister from 1998 to 2004 stunned the world by ending a decades-old moratorium on nuclear weapons tests but nevertheless managed to ease tensions with Pakistan and build closer ties to the United States, died in New Delhi. He was 93.

Sujatha Kumar: August 19

English Vinglish actress Sujata Kumar died battling fourth stage cancer. She was a popular face in the Indian advertising world and best remembered for her role as Sridevi’s older sister in English Vinglish.

Nitin Bali: October 9

Famous 90s remix singer Nitin Bali, famous for his versions of ‘Neele Neele Ambar’ and ‘Ek Ajnabee Hassena Se’ among other songs, passed away in Mumbai after suffering serious injuries in a car accident. He was 47.

Stan Lee: November 12

Stan Lee, the patriarch of Marvel Comics who introduced the world to superhero storytelling died at the age of 95 in November in Los Angeles. Lee was best known for co-creating much of Marvel’s pantheon of beloved superheroes

George HW Bush: November 30

George Herbert Walker Bush, who advocated a “kinder, gentler” conservatism, pursued policies that helped topple the Soviet empire and initiated military campaigns that ousted one foreign dictator and crippled another, has died. He was 94 and lived longer than any other U.S. president.

Tulsi Ramsay: December 14

Filmmaker Tulsi Ramsay of the Ramsay Brothers has died at the age of 77. The Ramsay Brothers – Tulsi, Kumar, Shyam, Keshu, Arjun, Gangu and Kiran – produced a series of cult horror classic through the ‘80s and ‘90s, that are still held in high regard to this day.

Mrinal Sen: December 30

Veteran filmmaker Mrinal Sen, known for his contribution to Bengali parallel cinema, died on Sunday at his residence. He was 95 and he died of old age complications, said his family member. Born in 1923, in the town of Faridpur, now in Bangladesh, Sen made his first feature film, “Raat Bhore”, in 1955 He was the National Award-winning director and recipient of Padma Bhushan award.

Kader Khan: December 31

Veteran actor-writer Kader Khan passed away due to prolonged illness at the age of 81 on December 31.Khan went on to write dialogues for over 250 films, including some of the biggest blockbusters of the ’70s and ’80s such as Dharam Veer, Ganga Jamuna Saraswati, Coolie, Desh Premee, Suhaag, Parvarish, Amar Akbar Anthony, Sharaabi, Lawaaris and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar. He was equally prolific as an actor after making his screen debut in 1973 with Rajesh Khanna’s Daag. He featured in a variety of character roles in over 300 films.
