First, everyone is dying for a year to end and when it does, people are in a tearing hurry for January to get over, which is generally perceived as the longest month of the year. May be Murphy is just testing our patience. Speaking of which, this quality is scarce on the streets of Mumbai. Or, as my favourite taxiwalas say, “Is sheher ke raaste ya toh metro ke liye todey hain aur kuchh bache kuche cement karne ke liye. Sheher ab bacha kum hai toda jyada.” The tempers will be rising with the temperatures after this week.

And the temperature in political circles was rather warm, as the oldies were taken aback. Butterboy pulled out a good one, announcing his sister’s foray into politics. Chuckling times these are, the young man flies down to Goa to meet the tubenosed head of state, making opponents sit up. Speaking of women and politics, the three women I am keeping track of — PMM – Priyanka, Maya and Mamata. The strong men are feeling weak-kneed and such jaw-dropping information the millennials are being given by the 56-inch Chest. His words were like poetry in murder. He claimed, every three, seven and eleven days a rapist has been given a death sentence. And like walls have ears, one rapist on the same day was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment. This is fekugiri of some new sort, or wait, may be he mixed it up with lynching and actually made this act official. Quite a broth, this.

Meanwhile, justice glowed in the dark at the Bombay High Court, as one of moi favourite no-nonsense judges, AS Oka, sat through the dark moments on Wednesday. Come rain, shine, siren or darkness, this judge never fails the petitioners. A lot happens in these courtrooms. Just recently, the legal advisor of the state, one part of whose name connotes a slumbering demon, tried his best to dissuade the judge from making public the backward class commission report. What drama he put on, as if there would be Maha rada by Marathas. Court put paid to his plans on the spot.

Must say the paps were forced to take their eyes off tiny Taimur for a change. The sultry, rivetting Rekha took Dabboo Ratnani’s calendar launch by storm! Shedding her Kanjivaram and renouncing her temple jewellery she opted for a kaftan-style top, tight black capris and studded boots, giving quite a kick to the paps who noted in a snap she had smartly paused below ‘His’ photograph. It’s another kahani that Rekha made another Tamilian Bollywood star look very gharelu.

Meanwhile, the much sought after designer who is the current favourite of all brides, celeb or ordinary, whose signature is heavy design, embroidery and jewellery, has left many an old name out of reckoning. His new outlet is quite a walk down memory lane with Pakeezah songs playing in the background, faded portraits picked from Chor Bazaar to give it the bygone era look and interiors which resemble Mughal-e-Azam sets.
