As we all know, the youth is powerful and holds a lot of potential when it comes almost everything. In my search of what college students are expecting the new government to do including the changes they want in our society, I spoke to five students from different streams to understand their mindset. Here’s what they want the new India government to do.

Chandrashekhar Varma

“Eliminate the middleman”
Chandrashekhar Varma, 21, SY BMS student from Jai Hind College, Mumbai thinks that the middleman should be eliminated and more focus should be given on villages. He said, “I strongly feel that the youth should be encouraged, for example students of my age who reside in villages have no idea about concepts such as start-ups which keeps them away from trying and testing their potential talent. So such campaigns should be held in order to encourage them. The new government should also increase the minimum support price for crops and eliminate the middlemen.”

“Give respite to the middle-class”
Sambhavna Verhani, 23, a CS & Law student thinks that the middle class should be given a privilege. She said, “The rich is getting richer and poor is getting poorer, and nothing is happening to the middle-class men, they are just running behind their dreams, drenched in installments. The medicines have become a toast for the rich too, the prices should be brought down and should be in the reach of the middle-class men.”

“Free of Censorship”
Aishwarya Shrivastava, Indira Gandhi Open University, 22, thinks that citizens should be valued. In a conversation with me, she said, “I no longer want an environment where there is fear of censorship. I don’t want citizens to value their religious identity over their National identity. I hope the new government keeps a check on gender-based violence and quality jobs for young people.”

Riya Vaya

“Less noise, more work”
Riya Vaya, 21, a Bsc-IT student from Jai Hind College, said, “At this point I am not rooting for anybody. However, if BJP wins, it’ll be less work more noise about working. If Congress wins it’ll be no work no noise. At this point, it’s like choosing the less bad option out of both bad options.”

“Propose new amendments”
Ronak Agarwal, Fourth Year, BB LLB (H), Symbiosis International University, Pune has different perspectives for what he expects from the new government. He said, “As an upcoming lawyer, I want the legislation to be improved. Certain amendments should be made to the old legislation and there should be a proper forum which can propose new amendments keeping in mind the new society of India, we should build efficient systems, be on par with the law of the other countries. Transparency between the legislation and the judiciary is needed. And as a citizen, I want to know what the government wants to actually do with its new proposals. A lot of vagueness is seen in the ideas of the big projects, expenditures justification is needed, more debates and how India will look after 10 years is what we need. ”
