Politicians play an important role in shaping a nation’s future. Well-learned leaders can make the right decisions when it comes to the nation’s progress. In a country like India, also known as the world’s biggest democracy, it seems education qualification of politicians doesn’t matter much. Textiles Minister of India Smriti Irani’s educational qualification had always made headlines and stirred controversy. Irani has recently revealed that she undertook her exams for Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) the first year from Delhi University’s School of Open Learning, but ‘did not complete the three-year degree course’. Over the years, the row over her degree has taken some sharp turns. While in 2004, she claimed to have completed her Bachelor of Arts in 1996 from Delhi University. And whenever she tried to clear the air, she ended up making it worse.

Uma Bharti
Uma Bharti currently serves as the Cabinet Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation in the Union Government of India. Born to a family of peasants, she attended school up to standard sixth. As a child, she was always interested in religious texts and soon as a child she began to give religious courses. This brought her into the contact of Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia who became her political mentor. And the rest is history.

Rabri Devi
Rabri Devi is a member of the Legislative Council for Bihar Vidhan Parishad who has served three terms as the Chief Minister of Bihar. According to reports, she studied up to the age of 14. She is the wife of the politician Lalu Prasad Yadav, who is the former Chief Minister of Bihar and former Railway Minister of India.

Anant Geete
Former Union Cabinet Minister for Power, Anant Geete is the Union Cabinet Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Sector Enterprises. He was elected six times to the Lok Sabha. He has studied till class 10.

Vishnudeo Sai
The Minister of State for Steel, Vishnudeo Sai is a member of the 16th Lok Sabha and represented the Raigarh constituency of Chhattisgarh. He was born to a farmer’s family in Bagia village of Jashpur district in Chhattisgarh. He studied till class 10 from Loyola Higher Secondary School at Kunkuri, Jashpur.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal
Harsimrat Kaur Badal is the Union Cabinet Minister of Food Processing and an MP from Bathinda. She is a member of Shiromani Akali Dal.  Harsimrat Kaur is a matriculate and holds a diploma in textile design.

Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju
Former Union Minister for Civil Aviation Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju studied till class 10. He is a scion of the royal family of Vizianagaram princely state and the younger son of the last Maharaja of Vizianagaram.
