You’ll never be Hema Malini or Alia Bhatt: When Neena Gupta told daughter Masaba she can’t be an actress

Neena Gupta who charmed the country with her performance in ‘Badhaai Ho’, recently appeared on an interview with film critic, Rajeev Masand. In a candid conversation the actress talked about work, co-stars and daughter Masaba Gupta.

Masaba now a successful fashion designer once wanted to become and actress and mother Neenaji, advised her against it. Masaba born to actress Neena and West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards changed her mind when mother said, she wouldn’t be able to become Alia Bhatt or Hema Malini in the industry.

The actress during the interview revealed that she was very honest with Masaba and that she wanted her to know the truth. “I told her ‘If you want to be an actor then you go abroad. Jis tarah tumhara shakal hai, body hai, tumhe yahan Indian milieu mein bahot kam role milenge (The way you look, the way your body is, you will get very few roles in the Indian milieu) even if you become a good actor. So tumko woh heroine nahin milegi. Toh Hema Malini nahin banoge, Alia Bhatt nahin banoge (You will never become a heroine, you will never become Hema Malini, you will never become an Alia Bhatt)’ (sic).”

She also soundly advised Masaba before she filed a trial separation with then husband Madhu Mantena. Talking about it she said, “Like a normal mother, I said don’t take any decision in a rush. Think about it because me and my husband both loved Madhu and still love him. He’s a very nice man and we still love him. But… nahi bana toh nahi bana…Humne bola socho isko, aisa nahi hai ki immediate decision liya, they thought about it. It was a very big shock to me.”

Neena Gupta has nailed the parenting life like a boss, and is taking over the acting world. The actress after the success of Badhaai Ho has bagged a pivotal role in Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s ‘Panga’ starring Kangana Ranaut and Jassi Gill.
