It hasn’t even been a week since Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja tied the knot and we’re already talking about the crisis circulating around Sonam’s name change.
Apparently, style diva Sonam has been questioned by well-known author and feminist Taslima Nasreen as to why the actress succumbed to name change on Twitter.
Sonam’s new profile reads Sonam K Ahuja after marrying her long-time boyfriend Anand Ahuja on May 8, with a grand reception that was attended by celebrities like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Ranveer Singh, Anil Kapoor, Arjun Kapoor and many others.
Nasreen did not like the gesture and took a dig at the Veere Di Wedding star by calling the film industry patriarchal and superstitious in nature, as reported by International Business Times.
Taslima charged Sonam for the very reason that as a feminist and a progressive thinker, changing her surname to her husband’s a sign of patriarchy.
The writer on Twitter questioned if Sonam’s husband Anand would add “Kapoor” to his surname. Here’s what she wrote.
Taslima received mixed reactions on Twitter for the same, wherein some stated it is the actress’ personal choice, whereas some agreed to the feminist.
It will be interesting to see what the newly married Sonam, who claims she is a feminist, has to say about these remarks.
