When Manali was shut down for MARY KOM

It’s known that in order to give ‘Mary Kom’ a realistic feel, the makers of the film had recreated the North East in Manali, a hill station nestled in Himachal Pradesh. And now, a source close to the film tells us that while shooting for the film, the local market had to be shut and special permissions were taken from the local governing bodies and market authorities for the film. What’s more, we are also told that the cast and crew would shoot the film once the streets were cleared up!

According to the source, it was not an easy affair to clear up the hustle and bustle of the market and the streets of the small town, which is always filled with locals and tourists alike. But the star crazy locals nonetheless were more than happy to lend their support. They happily cooperated and were excited that the grittysports drama was being shot with superstar Priyanka Chopra adorning their small town.

MARY KOM is a bio-pic on the Olympian Mary Kom. Directed by debutant filmmaker Omung Kumar and produced by Sanjay LeelaBhansali, the film is slated to release on September 5.
