Salman Khan talks about the ‘Dabangg’ franchise and hopes for another sequel, ‘D3’, once this film is out in December.
Yes, ‘Dabangg’ has become a brand now. But I remember when ‘Dabangg’ was about to be released people had spoken negative things about it. There was a lot of criticism. My friends too felt this film is a rural, rustic film and nothing much would come of this cop Pandey. Before the script reached me, it had been rejected by various producers for over two years. However, the film turned out to be a bumper success and today I am working on its sequel. This sequel is my sequel.
What can we expect from the sequel?
The sequel will see me married to Sonakshi as the climax of ‘Dabangg’ showcased our married life. So obviously the story will go forward from here. My mother has always expected the family to remain united so you will see this facet too. Chulbul Pandey now shares a good rapport with his brother. The story has the backdrop of Kanpur and Chulbul is an impressive cop out here. The only difference is Pandeyji will have differences and will settle scores with a Bachcha Bhaiyya and not Cheddi Singh.
On changes in scripts
There are certain changes to the script on the sets. At the initial stage it is written within the four walls but on the sets while picturising the film, there can be good inputs. I always like to incorporate inputs for the betterment of the story and the film.
On Abhinav Kashyap
We were very keen that director Abhinav Kashyap directs the ‘Dabangg’ sequel. I personally called him and asked him but he refused. We were shocked when he refused the offer as he was the director of this successful film. Arbaaz has directed the sequel and he has done a fantastic job.
On the sets
On the sets I would never think for a second on whether I should give speak to Arbaaz about something. He is fantastic at his job but if I wanted to give him a suggestion I would do it unhesitatingly. Had there been an outsider as the director, I probably would have to think twice but Arbaaz being my brother did not hinder my thought process a bit. Also if Arbaaz felt the change was not necessary we would just do what suited the film. Initially, we did have some differences but as the shoot went on everything fell in place. Arbaaz and I have had enough of fights during our childhood. Our fights would reach dad, but it’s all okay between us brothers. In this film he is the producer, actor and director, but we have all shared our responsibilities equally. Hope the film does well at the box office. Every film has its destiny though.
On himself as a hit actor
I cannot say Salman is hit. But yes, whenever my films have not done well at the box office I try to improve my performance. Actually, I feel if the audiences are fed what they demand then there is no looking back. All I can say is that I try my level best to keep all my fans happy. The audiences need to watch something fresh and we try to bring it to them and hope our films do well!
Will there be a ‘Dabangg 3’?
Yes! We have already completed 75 percent of the script for ‘Dabangg 3’. But we will have to wait for the results of ‘Dabangg 2’. Only after that will we decide whether to go ahead with ‘D3’. At the moment we are waiting this month for our film to become a hit at the box office.
