Shah Rukh Khan and Abhishek Bachchan go a long way personally. Professionally, they delivered a hit together Happy New Year post which Abhishek took a two year long break. Now, he is back with Anurag Kashyap’s Manmarziyaan and people are appreciating his work. While he has signed another movie with Kashyap with wife Aishwarya, there is a legit question which everyone keeps asking him: Why did he take a long break? He exclusively spoke about this with Bollywood Hungama and also added how Shah Rukh Khan encourages him to be a good actor.
On taking a long break Abhishek said, “I was very aware that people were thinking. Despite considering their views, I decided to take sabbatical it was getting easy. I was getting complacent as an actor that is not what I want to do. I want to make a difference, like every actor.” He further said that he was getting very comfortable and hence took a break because he wanted to reinvent himself and push his limits. He said, “As an actor if you are a part of successful films, if you are getting money to do them. And those films are with huge star cast the pressure of delivering the hit is not on you it is on a senior actor. I was in a very comfortable position. I was just coasting around; I did not come to do that. I came to make name for myself for recognition.”
He further said that the feeling of comfort itself was making him uncomfortable. In his words, “I would get up and have a blast and just coast around. Everything was great, what could go wrong. I knew at the back of my mind that if I did three more films and I would be out. The makers would say why would I take him in my film? I am not selling my film because of him.” He then came to point and spoke about his character Nandu Bhide from Happy New Year. He revealed what SRK told him. He said, “SRK told me tu kitna achcha actor hai, tu aur mehnat kar and I said but I am doing and people are liking what I am doing. That is a dangerous space. Whatever I am doing, people are accepting. So keep lowering your standards. Now imagine how much more I could have done with Nandu Bhide had I put in more effort. Had I not been more complacent, had I pushed myself that harder.” Manmarziyaan sure brings out a better side of Abhishek – the actor and we are finally glad to have him back.
