After much hype, the pan-India film Kannappa, starring Vishnu Manchu, Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, and others, has fallen prey to piracy days after it released in theatres. Kannappa hit the theatres on June 27, and its box office collection has reportedly taken a hit due to piracy.

According to reports, makers of Kannappa have taken down nearly 30,000 pirated links of the film from various platforms including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and X. However, despite the prompt action, the menace of piracy has affected the film.

The makers are yet to issue an official statement on the issue.

Kannappa box office collection

Kannappa, which released on Friday and clashed with Kajol's supernatural thriller Maa, opened with Rs 9.35 crore at the box office.

It saw a drop in numbers over the weekend, and the total box office collection of the film now stands at Rs 23.45 crore.

The film received positive reviews from the audience for its story of a devout follower of Lord Shiva, however, most of the audience complained about the runtime.

Kannappa makers warn trolls

Ahead of the film's release, the makers of Kannappa had warned trolls and miscreants against spreading misinformation about the film and targetting it unnecessarily.

"The film has been created responsibly to engage with the public at large and we thereby respectfully request all critiques to watch the film first, appreciate its substance, understand the intent and then comment on it with responsibility, rather than succumbing to premeditated biases or vendetta-fuelled commentary," a statement by the film's team read.

The notice further read that though the makers respect freedom of speech, they have the right to question deliberate attack and take legal action against it.
