Taking charge as Detective Santa Singh in the upcoming film ‘Santa Banta Pvt LTD’, Boman Irani tells Viraj Sawant why he chose to do this film.
Tell us something about your role in the film ‘Santa Banta Pvt LTD’.
I play Santa in Santa and Banta and we are playing two detectives in the film. It’s about a story about mistaken identity and a crime that’s happened in the film. And we(Santa and Banta) are out there to solve the case. It’s not a string of jokes, it’s a crime caper.
Did you agree to the film instantly or was there a little hesitance from your end?
Akashdeep (Director) came to me with the script. I was a little apprehensive about doing it. I had the impression of the film being just a string of Santa Banta jokes. But the script had a plot. It’s about how these two go to Fiji, unearth the crime and solve the case. I liked the script because it is a thriller and there is a story to it. You can’t have a film without a story. There is a great brotherhood between the two characters. They are so close to each other that they can actually sacrifice their life for the other. The two characters are innocent and their intention in life is to do good. Eventually when they solve the crime, they prove themselves as good detectives. Then finally they get their glory and honour.
How was it shooting Fiji, a very unlikely place for Bollywood shoots?
Fiji was very beautiful. Fiji authorities were welcoming and the way they had setup things for us was great. It was tremendously hot there. But the beauty of the place makes you forget the heat there. The film looks beautiful because of the place. Thanks to Fiji and our photographer.
It must have been a laughter riot with so many comedians on the set. How was the atmosphere on the set?
When you are far from your house, you are compelled to come closer to the unit of the film. We had a lovely direction team ad Ram (Kapoor), Sanjay Mishra, Johnny Bhai, Vijay Raaz, Vir, Neha and Lisa. Also I made great friends with the choreographer, ChiniPrakash. Wonderfully talented guy and he has done some great work or the film industry.
