Rajinikanth’s KOCHADAIIYAAN grossed Rs. 42 crore worldwide at the box office (bo) in the opening weekend

Eros International’s KOCHADAIIYAAN – The Legend which was released in 2D and 3D last Friday, in 6 languages in over 3,000 screens worldwide collected  a massive Rs. 42 crore gross worldwide on the first weekend itself. Directed by Soundarya Rajnikanth Ashwin, KOCHADAIIYAAN uses the Photorealistic Performance Capture technology. The movie grossed Rs. 30 crore in India and Rs. 12 crore overseas.  According to industry reports, markets with Rajnikanth’s stronghold like UAE, Malaysia and Singapore have shown superlative performance. According to sources with pre-sales from satellite rights in multiple languages, audio and music rights exploitation, brand tie-ups and other income, the film is well on its way to cross Rs 100 in revenue just after the opening weekend.

KOCHADAIIYAAN is an epic dramatisation of good versus evil starring megastar Rajinikanth along with Deepika Padukone. Rajnikanth is seen in a double role in a larger than life depiction in the movie. Also starring in the grand production are leading stars R. Sharath Kumar, Nazar, Aadi, Shobana and Rukmini. The musical score to the movie is given by Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman.

On the other hand, Sajid Nadiadwala’s HEROPANTI collected Rs 20.55 crores net at the Indian box office in the first weekend. According to box office collections, the breakup of its three days’ collection is Rs 6.63 crore on Friday, Rs 6.42 crore on Saturday and Rs 7.50 crore on Sunday. It’s being said that HEROPANTI has recovered more than 60% of its production cost in just three days. If the trend is to continue, the movie is likely to cross the Rs 35 crore mark at the India box office in the first week itself.
